GAMBERALE RESEARCH ADVICE
Eugene Morgan
eugenemorgan@zxcity.com
Regarding Gamberale and for loads of information and insight on the subject, here are a couple of suggestions.   In the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, on Fifth Avenue across the street from Carlow College, is Sciulli's Pizza shop.  That family would be able to help you tremendously, I do believe.  I often frequent the shop for lunch and have become quite familiar with Mr. Sciulli and his sons who operate the restaurant.  Stop by the pizza shop (or call) and ask for Gabe, Oriente or sometimes Tony.
Also in Oakland section of Pittsburgh is a social club called St. Lorenzo Gambreale Mutual Benefit Society.  It's located on Bates Street, just above Boundary Street and the Hollow, where many Gamberale families migrated to, grew up and still live.  It would be a wealth of information for anyone researching genealogy relative to Gamberale.  A great contact person there would be Joe Police, known in Oakland as Joe Poe or Pasquale (Patsy) DiTommasso, although there are many that would be able to help you. What is very interesting about this section of Oakland is that almost all of the residents have Gamberale names and conncetions.  I hope this information helps.

I was born in Gamberale in 1963 and emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1967 with my parents Alfio Conicella & Rosa Sciulli.  I am always interested in helping other individuals from Gamberale in finding information that they
require.  I have booked a vacation to visit Gamberale in August 2002.

DE IULIIS
Steven de Julius
steven@dejulius.wanadoo.co.uk
My name is Steven de Iuliis and my mothers maiden name is Rita de Iuliis.  We both live in the UK and very close to London.
My mother was born in Gamberale in 1937 the second born child. The first was a son that unfortunately passed away at an early age.
My mother has a sister that lives in Rome and has three children and another sister, Asunta that lives in Glasgow Scotland with three children and a younger brother, Mario that also lives in Glasgow Scotland with three children.
My mothers mothers name was Maria and her fathers name was Nicola.
The family de Iuliis still own the house that Maria and Nicola lived in, which is very close to the football pitch.
Maria and Nicola have now passed away but the house is used as a summer retreat.
I hope to drive to Gamberale next summer 2005 for a short vacation.
If anyone would like to contact me please do.

DI NARDO / DI POCCIO
Karen Fridg

My great-grandmother, Sabia DiNardo (1874-1920) was from Gamberale. She married Guiseppe DiPoccio (1873-1915). I was always told he was from Pizzoferrato. They had (at least) 3 children, Nicola, Antonio born around 1910 (known in Pittsburgh as Anthony DePocco), and Emilia born in 1912, my grandmother, now Mary Bruno. The children were all born in Pizzoferrato. I was also told that an older child remained in Pizzoferrato. My great-grandmother and the children came to the US in 1915 and settled in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh to join my great-grandfather who was already here. I believe they first lived on Bouquet St. in Pittsburgh, PA.
When my ggrandfather died, my ggrandmother later married Carmine Iandiorio and had a son, Albert (Iandiorio) Andiorio, also from Pittsburgh.
Any information someone may have on my family will be greatly appreciated.

My father, Gennaro Falorio, was born in Gamberale in l890.  I visited there a year ago October (2000) and enjoyed it very much.  The photos on your site are excellent and I have many more which I took.  The hotel there is very nice and caters to skiiers from Germany from October to April. I was able to find my father's nephews who still maintain an apartment there.  They presently live in Atessa and Lanciano.

SCIULLI
Rino

Hi, My mom is from Gamberale, actually, she was born near the train station.  Her old house is about a 2 minute walk from the train station.  Her maiden name is Sciulli and on that strip, there is still Gino Sciulli who is her first cousin.  Years ago, my grandpa's brothers, Leonardo and Pasqualli, and my grandpa lived in houses along the train station.  The station is about a 10 minute walk from the Turchia area of Pizzoferato.  A weird thing about the area around the train station is that the Italian government ran out of money when building the superstrata, so there is this dead end right where my grandpa has his donkey stall and on his property, and his old house.  My uncle Raffaelle is also from Gamberale, his last name is Pasquarelli, but he was born in the village.  Plus my grandma (Conicella) is from there too, but moved to Pizzoferato when she married my grandfather (Dad's dad).

Linda A. Sciulli

My greatgrandmother Enrechetta Bucci married Guiseppe Sciulli.
Enrechetta had a brother Luigi who married Elmerinda. Her other brother Antonio (Anthony?) was shot by the Germans in 1944-45?. She was suppose to have another sister who never left Gamberale. I do not know her name. I'm really looking to learn the name of the last sister and if she had family.
