PEOPLE / PLACES 2003

Part of Lettomanoppello's stone presepe or nativity scene, carved by local craftsmen.  It is kept at the church of the Iconicella until Christmas, when it is displayed in the town square.  How appropriate that this town, which was historically a town of quarries, stonecutters and sculptors, has a stone nativity scene. Above right, a shepherd playing a bagpipe, a traditional southern Italian figure in nativity scenes.  At left, near the camel, is his sheepdog.

The drugstore, on via Stefano in Lettomanoppello, indicated by the green cross over the doorway.  Inside, behind the counter, is the owner, Dottore Francesco De Lellis.

On little via Cairoli, opposite the bakery, is the Pizzeria Piccolo Borgo; inside behind the pizza case is Modesto Martinelli.
