Montenerodomo, in the province of Chieti, is located at an elevation of 3800 feet on a ridge between the Aventino and Sangro rivers on the eastern side of the Maiella; there is a beautiful panoramic view from the Maiella to the Adriatic Sea.  The town has a population of 1100 inhabitants.

Inhabited since ancient times, the territory was the site of the Frentani (an Italic tribe) city of Juvanum, conquered by Rome in the 1st century B.C.  Not far from the present-day town of Montenerodomo are found the ruins of Juvanum, with an acropolis, a theater and a forum.  Near the acropolis there is also a former Cistercian monastery, Santa Maria di Palazzo, built in the medieval era with materials recovered from the ruins of Juvanum.
The first certain documented mention of Montenerodomo is in a record from the year 1275 A.D.

The town still shows evidence of damage suffered during WWII, when the home of the grandparents of Benedetto Croce, a famous 19th century literary critic and philosopher, was destroyed.

Points of interest in the town include the church of S. Martino and S. Giusta, the house of the De Thomasis, the civic tower which rises above a gothic gate, and an 18th century tower, now used as a dwelling,  located in a small square.
