AMAROSO / AURITI
Raffaella Marciari
fmrm141@optonline.net
Our family emigrated to New York in 1961 when  I was a baby.  Both my parents were born in Rapino and we still have family residing there.  Quite a few "Rapinese" settled in the Kew Gardens/Richmond Hill area during that time period.  Haven't been back since 1987 but the pictures on your website brings back wonderful memories.

AMROSO / BONTEMPO

Jeffrey J. Haas
jhaas84@comcast.net
Bambina Amoroso
Ernest Amoroso
Emigrated to Richmond Hill, New York and later to Atlantic Beach, New York.
The Amoroso and Bontempo families were heavily involved in the wrought iron and ceramics trade in Rapino and it is believed that the Bontempos are still in the ceramics business.
Early Bontempo pieces can fetch a very high premium at auctions and are considered highly prized examples of Italian ceramics craftmanship.
Amoroso wrought iron fixtures adorn some of the most beautiful villas in Tuscany and surrounding areas.
Thanks so much for this website. It has brought tears of joy to the eyes of my 84 year old mother who now lives in Southern California, and that's more precious than all the gold in the world to me.

TORTO
dlvalentini@adelphia.net
My family emigrated from Rapino and ended up in Queens, New York in the Spring of 1959 following my father Andrea Torto who prepared our arrival for three years.
My father Andrea Torto was born in Rapino in Sept of 1910 seventh child of Giuseppe and Maria Torto.  My father had many jobs in Rapino but due to the economic devastation after the WWII he left Rapino and worked as a brick layer in NY after his arrival in 1956.  He scrimped and saved and obtained the necessary funds to move his immediate family, that being his wife Almerinda and their two daughters Maria and Malvina and two of their sons Giuseppe and Lorenzo.  Shortly after their arrival to the New World their final child Andrea completed the complement of three sons and two daughters.
Andrea Torto lived to the august age of 87 and died in Sept of 1997. His widow Almerinda is the matriarch and still celebrates the holidays with her wonderful cuisine lovingly prepared for several days before the holiday actually arrives.
Tragically the eldest son Giuseppe lost his life when his motorcycle was struck by a car and died instantly and buried on Christmas Eve 1969.
The eldest child is the daughter, Maria, is married and lives in Seal Beach California and has one son and two daughters.
The second oldest is Malvina who is married and lives atop the family home on the second floor with her Polish emigre husband. She works for the president of Roosevelt Hospital.
The fourth born is Lorenzo who lives in Fresh Meadows Queens and works for the Health Dept of NY in the business office as a director. Lorenzo has four children all are girls except the last child.
The fifth born is Andrea who lives in Garden City and works for AG Edwards. Andrea has one son.
