SANTO SPIRITO A MAIELLA
Every year from August 29 to the first Sunday in October an ancient Pardon (Perdonanza) is celebrated which attracts many pilgrims to the Scala Santa (Sacred Stairs) which lead to the Santa Maria Maddalena Oratory or Prayer Chapel.
The designation "Oratorio Della Maddalena" is incorrect however. It no longer exists as it collapsed many years ago. Many call the chapel "Oratorio Della Maddalena" but it  is really the "Retreat of Monte Calvario" (L'Eremo di Monte Calvario) which was already in existence at the time of Saint Peter Celestino.
These stairs are eroding because people climb them on their knees. The Perdonanza is for anyone who believes they will be absolved from their sins  by repenting and confessing at this time.
