A Story Behind Some Family Names
My grandfather was Giuseppe DiPietrantonio of Lettomanoppello, nicknamed "Pazzit" (see the DiPietrantonio nicknames on the Nicknames page). He was of the "La Torre" branch of the DiPietrantonio family in Lettomanoppello. He and his wife, Pasqualina Conte, produced an abundant lot of children, 19 to be exact, although only 12 grew to adulthood. Eventually, over the course of the1950s and 1960s, my grandfather and grandmother emigrated to the U. S., as did nine of the children as well. Among the children who came to the U. S. were a son, Germano, born in 1936, and a daughter, Italia, born in 1938. Germano and Italia were given their names to honor and commemorate the Rome/Berlin Axis pact signed in Rome in 1936 by Hitler and Mussolini. Germano for Germany, and Italia for, you guessed it, Italy. I never knew my grandfather to have any political affiliations until my father told me this story!

Song of LaRocca
In 1948 Roccamorice decided to join with the neighboring town of San Valentino in San Valentino's saint's festival. A song about Roccamorice was specially written, in dialect, for the occasion. At the time of the festival, La Rocca's town band and its young people marched into San Valentino, singing and playing this song, which I think has the title "Allegro Gioventu del la Rocca" ("The lively young people of La Rocca"):
