CAPONE
Maria De Felice
defelice.maria@gmail.com
I visited the tombs of my great grandfather, Ludovico Capone and his wife Maria, both of whom are buried in the wall of one of the churches in the Sulmona cemetery.  His son Oreste, who is my grandfather, married Gemma Di Ciccio, whose family was from Popoli.

CARDUCCI
Jim & Janet Greathouse
jj2great@woh.rr.com
In doing my family history I have come across the the Giuseppe Petro Carducci family..the ship's lists say he came from Sulmona and that he was born in 1865. His son of the same name was born 1887 and came to America in 1901.
That is about all I know. Here in the United states the son Joseph settled in Belmont County, Ohio and sometimes resided in Ohio County, West Virginia. I have much validated information here in the United States.
I desire to learn more about the birth place and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

For my father's 80th Birthday, I am taking him to Rome for six days and want to spend at least one of those days visiting the town where his father came from, i.e. Sulmona. While we are there, I was hoping to learn more about our family's history by seeing if we could find any long lost relatives. Our surname is Del Carlino so if there is anyone out there with that name, please respond.

Thank you for having this website. My sisters and I are looking for anyone who has knowledge of Giovanni Del Monaco who married Amelia Longo, born in ?, Italy around 1878/1879 (Giovanni), and 1881/1882 (Amelia).  They immigrated to America around 1903 and again in 1909 or 1910 .  They lived in Milford, Massachusetts. Giovanni died of TB around 1911.  Amelia passed two years later from the same disease and left our father and 4 siblings orphaned. Our father was Vincent James Del Monaco and his older sister was Emily Del Monaco, plus 2 brothers unknown names.
We think that our Grandfather and Grandmother, may have come from Sulmona, or a town nearby. If you have any knowledge of this family line, we would greatly appreciate hearing of it.  We are planning to come to your village in 2008 to meet anyone who knew of them.
Thank you

DEPANFILIS
Michael DePanfilis
depanfilis@comcast.net
My grandfather, Antonio DePanfilis, was born in Sulmona on July 12, 1887.  He was a mason and I have heard he immigrated to the US via Ellis Island between 1892 and 1906.  He married my grandmother, Valverdina D’Alessio (from Bovino), in Connecticut in 1918, so he arrived in the US sometime before then.  His father was Raffaele Antonio DePanfilis and I’ve been told he was also a mason living in Sulmona.  He taught Latin @ a University in Italy (the University of L’Aquila?).  I believe Raffaele died between 1907 and 1910 in Sulmona.  His wife was Maria Lusso.  Apparently, when Raffaele died, Maria and her son Antonio (and possibly other siblings) came to the US.  They found their way to Stamford, Connecticut and finally settled in Norwalk, Connecticut, where they both died (1928 and 1953).  I did find some information on the patron saint of Sulmona who was one of the earliest Bishops: St. Pamphilus (San Panfilo) which I thought was interesting.  I have also been told that “DePanfilis” may mean “son of the breadmaker”.  Any information you have would be much appreciated!

DI RENZO / DE FELICE
srenzo@cityofclemson.org
I have been told but haven't confirmed that my family came from Sulmona.  This is what I know for sure about them: Giovanni DiRenzo married Francesca DeFelice in Italy.  Francesca's birthday was March 12, 1880.  Two of their children were born in Italy:
Boy - DOB - June 11, 1904 - American name - Donald
Girl - DOB - November 19, 1908 - American name - Mary
I know that they where in America by 1911 - another child was born that year in USA
The DiRenzo's settled in Monaco PA and their name was changed to Renzo.
I have just begun my search in the last year and any information that anyone may have to assist would be greatly appreciated.

LA CIVITA
Kelley Brautigan
kelley.bee@verizon.net
My great-grandfather, Luigi LaCivita was born about 1869 in Sulmona.  In the 1890's he immigrated to the U.S. with wife Maria (surname unknown) and 2 daughters, Lucia and Lindsey.  They settled in Tarrs, Westmoreland County, PA.  Prior to that, he had lived in another undetermined location where he ran into trouble with the law and changed his name to Louise Reboy.  Because of this change, virtually all Reboys in the US are related. There are Reboys in PA, NY, IN, KS, MO, that I am aware of right now.

Through papers I found after my fathers death, it gave me Sulmona as his birth place along with my grandfather and molther.   My dad's name is Michael and my Grandfather is Guieseppi.   I found a number of Maiorano's in Sulmona but none that I can definitely connect with as far as family. I have written to those Maiorano's in Sulmona, but in most cases, no replies.  Maybe you can help. I hope to be in Sulmona in April 2007.

His mother's maiden name is Leoparda. My great grandmother's maiden name is Mancini. From stories from my grandfather, my great grandfather while a child farmed the family plot outside the city walls. By the age of 10 though my Great Great Grandfather brought my great grandfather to New York City to work in the Brick yards. My G G grandfather then returned to Sulmona leaving my G Grandfather behind. At the age of 20 my G Grandfather returned to Sulmona to marry my G Grandmother, an arranged marriage. They both then eventually came back to America emigrating through Canada and finally residing in Detroit, MI. I am interested in anyone who might have simular stories and have maybe some sort of knowledge of friendships with my great grandparents. I know they did help allot of their friends get established in America. I have heard countless stories of gatherings of family and friends from the old country and a network of friendship that spanned the country.

SCIPIONE / PACELLI
Sandy Scipione Estlow
BabeeB46@aol.com
My ggreatgrandfather was Vito Scipione born in 1849.  His father's name was Dominic Scipione.  I do not know if this is their place of birth though.  Vito married Maria Domenica Pacelli, born 1852, around 1874 we believe in Sulmona.  They had seven children all born in Sulmona, IT.  :  Nicola, Guiseppe, Giovanni, Panfilo, James, Christina, and Regina.  Sometime in the early 1900's they migrated to America in the Boston area.
I'm told that my ggreatmother was related to Eugenio Pacelli, Pope Pius XII.  She was a devote Catholic.  My Italian contact gave up trying to get any assistance from the priest there and I'd love to find someone in Sulmona I can communicate with...who is also English speaking as I speak no Italian.
Can anyone assist me in this venture?
